Caves are a key motif in the artist’s practice. Built around photographs taken in karst caves, the title derives from Zhuangzi’s assertion that the “pipes of earth, these are the hollows everywhere”. The almost perfectly dark environment itself resembles a photographic negative: cracks in the rock, creeping fog and the flowing river supply weak emissions of light.
